Baye Fall is a cult that finds its roots in Muridism. It is one of the three great Islamic brotherhoods that exist in Senegal, the only one of indigenous origin that was founded by Serigne Ahmadou Bamba and Cheikh Ibra Fall (Baye Fall comes from Baay Fall which in Wolof means “Father Fall”). It is a derivative of Sufism (Islamic mysticism) in which a group of disciples, with the help of a teacher (the Marabuto), seek a contemplative and mystical path for direct knowledge of God without any form of mediation.
